The Dexter Elks Lodge distributed free dictionaries to third graders at Central Elementary Wednesday as part of an Elks national program to promote literacy to children in third-grade as they transition from learning how to read to identify and use information. The Dictionary Project was founded in 1995 by Mary French of Charleston, SC. The Dexter Elks Lodge has distributed over 2,000 dictionaries at the elementary in the past six year. Over one million dictionaries have been distributed nationwide.
