Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Bobby McMahon of Kennett captured this shot of what is referred to as a Blood Moon at 3:02 a.m. Tuesday. The Blood Moon occurs once in a "Blue Moon" when the moon crosses Earth's shadow. A Blood Moon occurs during a total lunar eclipse, which was on tap for the early Tuesday morning hours. As the eclipse takes place, the bright shadow of the moon dimmed and the red hues appeared. The process of the moon taking on the redness and returning back to its silver color lasted a little over an hour.
