Dexter Christmas Reading 2023The 2023 Dexter Christmas Reading was held Saturday evening in Downtown Dexter across from Mathis Funeral Home. A large crowd gathered for Christmas Carols and the reading of the second chapter of the Book of Luke. The reading is the story of the the birth of Jesus Christ. Guests at the event also enjoyed cookies, hot cocoa and apple cider.

Powderpuff Football at Dexter High SchoolThe annual Powderpuff Football Game took place Monday evening at Dexter High School. The was originally scheduled to be at Charles Bland Stadium but was moved indoors to the Bearcat Event Center due to rain. The evening consisted of three games. First was the seniors playing the sophomores with the seniors coming out on top. Next the freshmen defeated the juniors. In the championship game the seniors defeated the freshmen. With the ladies playing football the guys served as the cheerleaders.

Dexter Cross Country receives send off to stateThe Dexter Boys Cross Country team received a clap out as they prepared to leave for state competition. The Dexter Boys Cross Country team finished second at the Class 3 District 1 meet last weekend. Abbie Lloyd is an individual qualifier for state after finishing 11th at the district meet. The state meet will be Saturday at Gans Creek in Columbia.

All Inclusive Playground at Boon Park opensAfter years of planing and fund raising the All Inclusive Playground opened Wednesday at Boon Park. Southwest Elementary brought classrooms of students to the playground throughout the day and the clients from the Stoddard County ARC visited as well. The day concluded with a grand opening ceremony.

Friday night fun at Charles Bland StadiumThe Dexter Bearcats opened their 2023 season with a 26-14 win over Scott City. In addition to the the game the Marching Bearcats delivered their first performance of the season. The cheerleaders and fans showed their support for the team and the band.

9th Annual Ride For a CureThe 9th annual Ride For a Cure left the Dexter Elks Lodge Saturday morning. The ride is held in honor of Dexter native Larry Maronay, who lost his battle to cancer. The ride races funds for St Jude Children's Research Hospital, where Maronay was treated. The event also features a silent auction, 50/50 drawing and a meal for the riders following the ride. To date the ride has $53,745 for St Jude.

The luncheon is held to honor law enforcement with the Dexter Police Department, Stoddard County Sheriff's Department and Missouri Highway Patrol for their service. The meal this year was provided by WW Wood products.

Dexter Police, Fire and Stoddard County EMS make presentations at Summer Reading finaleThe Keller Library Summer Reading Program wrapped up with Stoddard County EMS, Dexter Police and Fire Departments. Kids first heard each speak on the service they provide. The kids then went outside and exploring the emergency vehicles each uses. Kona Ice was on hand to provide snow cones to the kids.

Delta Companies teach kids about safety and road projects at Keller LibrarySandy Lowery, Taylor Kirn and Aleya Clark with Delta Companies presented a program on safety and the road projects they oversee to the kids as part of Keller Libraries Summer Reading program. Safety equipment was demonstrated and then a children's book about road projects was read. The kids were then able to build their own roads with blocks and Play Dough. The summer Reading program will wrap up with one final session next Wednesday (July 19) at 11 a.m. at the library.

2023 Grille It Up Day 1The 2023 Grille It Up kicked off Friday evening. The Stoddard County Sheriff's Department won what became a three team Battle of the Heroes Mud Volleyball Tournament. What was scheduled to be Stoddard County vs the Missouri Highway Patrol became three teams when the Missouri National Guard joined the fun. From there visitors enjoyed many other activities including hot air balloons, bed races, games and more.
